For Windows users, safety experts probably know that you can disable the use of Regedit

(the tool for editing the registry of the operating system) by editing the Registry as follows:

  • There must be positioned KEY_USERS \. DEFAULT \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ System
  • you create a new key of type DWORD with the tag "DisableRegistryTools' and set to" 1".

Obviously, this restriction is usually applied with the aim of protecting the operating system from attacks by viruses or intrusions of hackers: disable editing of the Registry, no malicious software have the ability to change any settings of the functioning of the operating system as eg the configuration of programs to run when the computer starts.

The thing to take in mind, however, is that, once activated this restriction, you can not, with the usual tools (regedit or run a file. Reg), make any change to the registry nor remove the same restriction! The only solution consists in recourse to ad hoc tools that allow you to edit the registry or a low level with alternative systems.

One of these instruments is that they simply Reg2Exe is able to convert a. Reg file in. Exe:launching executables generated by Reg2Exe become possible to apply any changes to the Registry even though they have also enabled the DisableRegistryTools key.

Reg2Exe is a free application that requires no installation. To activate it you must:

  1. Download the executable (see link at the end)
  2. Unpack the zip file and launch the executable Reg2Exe.exe
  3. Click on the button "Register"
    reg2exe

Now, whenever you select a file. "Reg" and click with right mouse button, you will have in a new context menu item "Convert to Exe" that will allow you to create the executable to implement ad hoc your changes, thereby bypassing any restrictions triggered by the system:
